"No!" exclaims Nunciata during the first act of this drame lyrique, as the Corsican ancestor stubbornly refuses to end the rivalry that pits her family, the Fabianis, against their enemy, the Pietra-Neras.Set against a backdrop of tragic deaths, a thirst for revenge and passionate love, this drame lyrique portrays seven main characters, three of whom dominate the plot, act after act. The dark, dramatic framework of Augé de Lassus's libretto is balanced by soft and tender musical scores, such as the love duet between Margarita and Tébaldo in Act I.After its acclaimed premiere at the Monte-Carlo theatre in February 1906, L'Ancêtre was performed there on four more occasions, followed by performances in several cities across France, Belgium, Switzerland and Germany, in Algiers (February 1911) and Cairo (February 1912), before returning to the theatre where it was first performed in March 1915 for two further performances. We will have to wait until 2019 for this drame lyrique to return to the stage, at the Theaterakademie August Everding in Munich.Source: Bru Zane Mediabase, digital resources on French Romantic music.ProgrammeCamille SAINT-SAËNS - L’AncêtreDrame lyrique in three actsCastingKazuki Yamada, conductorJennifer Holloway / Nunciata (L’Ancêtre), sopranoGaëlle Arquez / Vanina, mezzo-sopranoHélène Carpentier / Margarita, sopranoJulien Henric / Tébaldo, tenorMichael Arivony / Raphaël, baritoneMatthieu Lécroart / Bursica, baritonePhilharmonic Chorus of Tokyo - Hiroyuki Mito, choirmasterDavid Zobel, répétiteurCo-production Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, Palazzetto Bru Zane.

Young Audience Concert - Snegourotchka

04
Dec
20 24
Among all the northern tales, there is one that is not very well known but very beautiful, which inspired the Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov to create his most beautiful opera: *Snegourotchka*.The Fairy Spring and the Snowman Winter had a daughter, Snegourotchka, a girl made of snow, delicate and of great beauty but very fragile. She must be protected at all costs from the vengeance of the sun, whose slightest ray could cause her to melt.Despite this terrible threat, Snegourotchka persuades her parents to let her live among humans, where her icy, snowy heart can finally open up to feelings. What will happen to her among humans? Who will be able to ignite the flame in her heart? This is what you will discover with the OPMC and this splendid music by Rimsky-Korsakov, which will melt your heart with joy!Recommended for ages 5 and up.ProgramNikolai RIMSKY-KORSAKOV - *Snegourotchka* (The Snow Maiden)Cast Philippe Béran, conductor   Joan Mompart, actor   Marina Sosnina, sand artist   Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra

Young People Concert - Mozart: The trials of a teenage prodigy in Italy

Mozart: the whole world knows his name, a musical genius, pianist, violinist and composer. Following his death at the age of 35, he bequeathed to humanity some of the greatest masterpieces in music. However, few people know much about his childhood or adolescence: years of endless travelling, during which Léopold (Wolfgang’s father) showed his prodigious son off to prominent figures across Europe. But these travels also had a significant influence on Mozart’s artistic development, especially this famous first trip to Italy – then the global centre of music – where he met many of the great artists of the era. This concert will be an opportunity to discover some of the major works composed by the teenage Mozart, accompanied by fascinating and often juicy travel stories!Recommended for ages 5 and up1st trip by Mozart and his father to Italy (December 1769 – March 1771)   CastingPhilippe Béran, conductorJoan Mompart, actorEmőke Baráth, sopranoMonte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra
