Introduction
This art, which raised Monaco’s profile over several decades, would make such an impression on its cultural destiny that H.S.H. Princess Grace of Monaco always dreamed of keeping the tradition of dance alive in the country. It was her daughter, H.R.H. Princess Caroline of Monaco, who fulfilled this wish by establishing the Compagnie des Ballets de Monte-Carlo in 1985.
In 1992, she entrusted direction of the company to Jean-Christophe Maillot, who went on to give it a repertoire that has been showcased around the world, while pursuing an ambitious policy of bringing in guest choreographers who have helped to make Monaco the welcoming home for dance that it has always been.
