From Workshop to Workshop - Photographs by Michel SIMA
In the latter half of the 1940s, Michel Sima, sculptor and assistant to Pablo Picasso, documented modern art's great adventure.
Introduction
With 65 photographic prints produced for this exhibition, organised by the Monaco Department of Cultural Affairs at the Quai Antoine I Exhibition Hall, visitors will become immersed in the history of twentieth-century art.
Taking some of the most iconic shots of Picasso at work at the Château d'Antibes, through his photographs, Michel Sima documented the flourishing post-war art scene that revived modern art.
The exhibition is staged near the ‘Ateliers du Quai’, an international artist residence, to form a link between the world of modern art and contemporary art. This venue, which hosts artists in Monaco, is a testament to the Principality's rich artistic heritage.
Théo Casciani, a young artist and writer in residence, has been given free rein to transform the venue into a space for pure creation and a mise en abyme of an art studio.
In addition to guided tours open to everyone, there is also a programme of youth activities mainly focused on drawing and the plastic arts.
