Introduction

In Monaco, at 6.30pm at the Théâtre des Variétés (Variety Theatre)

> Monday 20 January - Noémie LVOVSKY

Screenwriter, director and actress

The actor’s paradox

Discussion with Jacques Kermabon, film critic

Moving from one side of the camera to the other, as well as demonstrating her talent on stage, the director of Feelings (2003) is probably better placed than most to explain, with examples, what is meant by expressions such as "directing actors" or "accurate portrayal".

This talk is being organised in partnership with Monaco Audiovisual Institute.

> Monday 3 February - Sidi Larbi CHERKAOUI

Choreographer and dancer

Beyond: culture in movement

How does art emerge as a natural response to an environment?

What happens when a culture is displaced and enriched in a different location or body?

Thanks to his unique personality that is constantly moving and changing, Cherkaoui, throughout his voluminous output, is generous in sharing his views on the virtues and pitfalls of culture. Among his more personal works, Vlaemsch (chez moi) confronts him with the Flemish roots inherited from his mother.

In parallel with these issues, another of his key works, Ihsane, explores Cherkaoui’s relationship with his father, a relationship that fundamentally shaped their family’s identity and established the connection with Moroccan heritage.

> Monday 10 February - Georges VIGARELLO

Philosopher and historian

Sport in art

The history of physical games and competitions is now pored over extensively, highlighting the invention of ever new practices over time, and the associated context, technique and imagination.

There is then a dual approach in which art reveals the historical significance of certain practices, while these same practices can even help to modify its techniques and secrets.

This talk is being organised as part of Monaco World Capital of Sport 2025.

> Monday 10 March - Laure PROUVOST

Contemporary artist and video maker

In conversation with Laure Prouvost

Conversation with Mathilde Roman, PhD in Art and Art Sciences

Since 2022, Laure Prouvost has worked on a number of major projects, notably the exhibition Above Front Tears Oui Float, a reflection on climate change in which she imagines an alternative possible future. The exhibition was presented in Norway, followed by the United States and the Netherlands. In 2023, Laure Prouvost created a series of films and an installation titled OMA-JE, which focuses on the figure of the grandmother and considers how history is passed down through the generations. This work has been exhibited in Vienna, Montreal and Melbourne. Finally, Laure Prouvost opened two important new exhibitions in 2025: with the LAS Art Foundation in Berlin in February, and at MUCEM in Marseille in April.

> Monday 31 March - Leïla SLIMANI

Journalist and writer

Writing to shine a light on darkness

In continuation of the theme developed by the Prince Pierre Foundation over a number of years as regards the creative process of its guest artists, Leila Slimani offers a reflection on writing and solitude in a lecture that takes the form of a writing workshop.
