Introduction
In the early twentieth century, the progress of the industrial revolution gave rise to a new economic consideration in art: speculation. At that time, Marcel Duchamp, like the Dada and Surrealist movements of which he was a part, undertook a certain deconstruction of art, based on an ambitious paradox between economic and spiritual values. For Duchamp, a work of art was first and foremost an act for the mind rather than a value imposed by the art market: works subjected to a test of value, full of mind games that mocked and poked fun at the new marketing strategies of the period, mixing scandal and the relentless pursuit of novelty.
Our event draws its inspiration from literary cafés. Participants and audiences are invited to celebrate this anniversary: a venue as an intellectual, aesthetic and emotional space-time in motion, where round tables, artistic performances and convivial moments summon a few ghosts from the past to interrogate us about the present and its challenges... and to promote, once again, the Principality of Monaco as a laboratory for innovation and development in the arts!
