To evoke the Mediterranean, means summoning up the extraordinary history of the many great civilisations shaped on its shores over the centuries. But it also means facing up to its future, which is more uncertain than ever. The various pressures associated with its use, population growth, pollution and global warming are all threats to its future, global warming are all threats to its unique biodiversity and ecosystem services.

This brand new immersive and interactive exhibition "Méditerranée 2050" aims to encourage visitors to the Monaco ‘s Oceanographic Museum to take a new interest in the Mediterranean and become involved in its protection, through a space-time journey to 2050.

Introduction

Embark on a space-time exploration of the Mediterranean!

Step through the time portal at the entrance to each space, and delve into the past, present and potential future of the Mediterranean. At the end of your journey, help bring to life our shared dream of a protected Mediterranean by 2050.

OCEANOMANIA space

35 million years ago to today

Pass through the first time portal and unlock the memory of the Mediterranean. In the centre of this space, a sperm whale appears to emerge from the ground... It produces a wave as you approach, revealing the secrets and features of the Mediterranean Sea over time.

OCEANO MONACO space

From 1885 to the present day

Travel with the princes of Monaco, committed to protecting the Mediterranean and the ocean!

Begin your exploration of the oceans with Prince Albert I. Come aboard Prince Rainier III’s Deo Juvante II and learn more about his work in support of the Mediterranean. Protect the oceans and the Mediterranean with H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.

On the mezzanine level, check out the pictures of Monaco’s initiatives and partners in its work to protect the Mediterranean. Play, manage your marine protected area and make some good decisions: a game to lose yourself in with your family!

Destination 2050

Head off to meet some cetaceans in 2050!

Captain Anita, the captain of the Oceano Odyssey, and her team invite you to journey to the heart of a marine protected area in the Pelagos Sanctuary. This unique exploration of the Mediterranean in 2050 has some big surprises in store... Are you ready for your Mission Pelagos?

This richly illustrated, educational and interactive exhibition tells the story of the birth and evolution of our species, Homo sapiens, and of the entire human lineage known as Hominins.It traces the journey, through long migrations, of human beings who invented tools and mastered fire, before leaving the African cradle of humanity and eventually settling, for the past approximately 10,000 years, across the entire planet. These fascinating and open-ended questions are explored in this exhibition, which is further enriched by multimedia content (interviews, 3D views of prehistoric objects, quizzes, games, etc.).Like all exhibitions by Synops editions, From Toumaï to Sapiens is aimed at a wide audience and shares scientific knowledge in an educational and engaging way. Passionate about sharing knowledge, Synops editions design exhibitions that are both educational, interactive and immersive, intended for museums, media libraries, associations, science and technology culture centres and all types of public venues.

This exhibition in tribute to Victor Brauner (1903-1966), a major figure in international surrealism, presents for the first time an exceptional private collection established in Monaco that encompasses the artist's entire body of work, from the 1920s to the 1960s, spanning painting, drawing and sculpture. Complementing over one hundred and sixty works from this collection, ten non-Western art objects that belonged to Victor Brauner are on display, loaned by the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Saint-Étienne Métropole.
