Apprentice Collectors at the Venice Biennale
From 12 to 14 November 2024, Year 12 pupils taking art at Lycée François d’Assise-Nicolas Barré discovered the Venice Biennale, accompanied by Björn Dahlström, Director of the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco, Benjamin Laugier, the museum’s Head of Public Engagement, and their teacher Laurent Papillon.
Launched by the NMNM in 2017, the "Apprentice Collectors" educational programme aims to introduce teenagers to contemporary art and one aspect of a museum’s remit: to collect.
During the 2025–2026 academic year, after completing a series of meetings, discussions, visits and workshops, these same pupils will travel to an art fair, where they will be able to select one or more works produced by a single artist.
They will have an acquisition budget of €20,000. Each pupil will argue for their selection before a jury, who will decide which work or group of works will join the NMNM collections.
