The Unification of Inner & Outer Life

This programme features compositions by Kali Malone from her albums All Life Long and The Sacrificial Code, adapted for the Sacré Coeur organ.

Some of the works will be played with four hands, featuring Stephen O'Malley.

Kali Malone

Kali Malone's compositions use specific tuning systems in a minimalist structure for pipe organ, choir, chamber music ensembles and electroacoustic devices.

Rigorous and precise, simultaneously ethereal, and strikingly sonic, Kali Malone's harmonically rich music evolves through repetitive movements and extended durations to create intimate, sensitive soundscapes with astonishing depth of field. Through her hands, experimental reinterpretations of age-old methods of polyphonic composition and tuning systems become portals to new ways of perceiving harmony, structure, and introspection.

Kali has a series of international performances under her belt, including at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Philharmonie de Paris, Radio France, Rockefeller Chapel, the Grace Cathedral, the Southbank Centre, the Bozar, the Schauspielhaus, the Berghain, the Unsound Festival, at the Berlin Atonal and at the Kanal - Centre Pompidou, as well as many other museums, contemporary art spaces, concert halls, churches and festivals throughout Europe, North America, Japan and Australia.

Her commissions and residencies include Ina GRM, the Venice Biennale, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Orgelpark and Lafayette Anticipations. She has collaborated and performed with artists including Stephen O'Malley, Lucy Railton, Caterina Barbieri, Macadam Ensemble, Leila Bordreuil and Drew McDowall.

Originally from Colorado, Kali Malone currently lives between Stockholm and Paris.

The concert at Sacré-Coeur will feature Stephen O'Malley accompanying several four-handed organ pieces. Stephen O'Malley, guitarist, producer, composer and visual artist, has conceptualised and collaborated with several experimental and drone music groups; SUNN O))), KTL and Khanate being among the most well known.

Water is life, movement, music and dreams. Many poets have celebrated it in all its forms – rain, the sea, the ocean, springs, waves, torrents... not to mention sailors, fish, bridges and even the smell of the sea which transports us beyond the horizon to worlds yet to be discovered!Chantal Bertrand, Hélène Gastaud and Patrick Mégevand wanted to pay tribute to these verbal artists, to thank them for the delight that their verses and rhymes have given us.

Stella Cole is an artist with an astonishing ability to transcend generations. The singer is first and foremost a "success story" 2.0. She became known on social media from 2020 onwards, but her success did not end there and her voice quickly attracted the attention of major stars such as James Taylor, Meghan Trainor and Michael Bublé.Stella Cole sees herself as a singer of the biggest hits from the Great American Songbook. On her first, self-titled album, released in 2024, she performs a collection of classics including Moon River and Somewhere Over the Rainbow, bringing a jazzy sound to poppier songs such as My Future by Billie Eilish. It is an absolutely classic, timeless album, made with the involvement of producer Matt Pierson, arranger and pianist Alan Broadbent, guitarist Chico Pinheiro, pianist Ben Paterson and bassist Neal Miner."Most people of my generation don’t know these songs, and I’m excited about helping them to discover this repertoire![...] To me, it makes sense to sing these songs today, because the world needs this calming, joyous music, just as we did in the 1940s and 1950s." - Stella Cole.CastingStella Cole: voice Henry Allen Barfield : drums Fraser Urquhart: piano Luca Fattorini: bass
