Results published for the 2024 Apprentice Collectors
As part of the Apprentice Collectors educational programme launched in 2017 by the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco (NMNM) with the support of the copyright collective Société pour la Gestion des Droits d’Auteur (SOGEDA), participating students presented and defended their submissions before a jury* on Monday 15 April 2024.
For this 8th event, the project included Year 12 (Première) and Year 13 (Terminale) art students from the Institution François d’Assise-Nicolas Barré. Over the course of the year and accompanied by their teacher, Laurent Papillon and Benjamin Laugier, Visitor Manager at the NMNM, students were able to familiarise themselves with contemporary art and the processes involved in building an art collection.
Nineteen high school students travelled to Paris from 5–7 April thanks to the patronage of Frédéric Jousset, Chair and Founder of Art Explora and a 2024 programme sponsor. They conducted research and selected one or more works by the same artist with an acquisition budget of €20,000 in the framework of the Art Paris fair.
This year, a series of works from Katia Kameli’s installation Le Cantique des oiseaux (The Canticle of the Birds) was added to the NMNM collection. The four pieces were presented by Luna Larit Perrier, a Year-12 student, and acquired from the 110 Galerie Véronique Rieffel.
Honourable mention went to Year-13 student Hugo Tarsitano Renzetti for the quality of his presentation.
*Members of the jury: Frédéric Jousset, Francesco Manacorda, Director of Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea (Torino), Philippe Vergne, Director of the Serralves foundation (Porto) and a member of the NNMN acquisition committee, Célia Bernasconi, Chief Curator at the NMNM and Björn Dahlström, Director of the NMNM.
