Théâtre Princesse Grace

Théâtre Princesse Grace

Introduction

Theatre is both a physical place and an art form.

The theatre is a space dedicated to living art. Throughout a performance, art springs to life before our very eyes. The stage is home to colliding worlds that transcend one another to immerse the audience into a dreamlike, offbeat, funny, serious, light-hearted, far-fetched or a true reflection of reality.

As per Princess Grace's wishes to revive comedy theatre in the Principality, Prince Rainier III commissioned the restoration of the Théâtre des Beaux-Arts. The Princess completely redesigned the theatre's interior to improve the acoustics and working conditions for the actors by creating comfortable and functional dressing rooms.

On 17 December 1981, Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace officially opened the new theatre, renamed after the Princess, and attended the gala evening organised by Artistic Director Raymond Gérôme. For more than forty years, iconic actors and emerging artists who have since established themselves as talented thespians have been welcomed to the stage of the Princess Grace Theatre.

With a renewed artistic focus on dramatic arts, the Princess Grace Theatre continues to uphold its legacy as an esteemed venue that contributes to the Principality's cultural influence.
