Das Rheingold

Introduction

Music and libretto by Richard Wagner (1813-1883)
Premiere: Munich, Royal Theater, 22 september 1869

New production

For every opera house, a new production of any Wagner opera means a huge challenge for all its forces. In 2025, we have set us the goal to present you with a part of the Tetralogy, Das Rheingold, in one of Davide Livermore’s spectacular visualisations.

The revolutionary aspect of this production, however, lies in the musical side, notwithstanding recent endeavours by other companies: the recreation of the orchestra sound, the safeguarding of the clarity of the word, a special focus on the interplay between the voice and the orchestra, the difference between declamation and cantabile lines.

Chief Conductor Gianluca Capuano conducts a hand-picked cast of singers and Les Musiciens du Prince – our period instrument orchestra, which during the past years has successfully made a name for itself with operas from Monteverdi to Verdi. And now, it is ready to present its own stunningly fresh view of Wagner.

Water is life, movement, music and dreams. Many poets have celebrated it in all its forms – rain, the sea, the ocean, springs, waves, torrents... not to mention sailors, fish, bridges and even the smell of the sea which transports us beyond the horizon to worlds yet to be discovered!Chantal Bertrand, Hélène Gastaud and Patrick Mégevand wanted to pay tribute to these verbal artists, to thank them for the delight that their verses and rhymes have given us.

Stella Cole is an artist with an astonishing ability to transcend generations. The singer is first and foremost a "success story" 2.0. She became known on social media from 2020 onwards, but her success did not end there and her voice quickly attracted the attention of major stars such as James Taylor, Meghan Trainor and Michael Bublé.Stella Cole sees herself as a singer of the biggest hits from the Great American Songbook. On her first, self-titled album, released in 2024, she performs a collection of classics including Moon River and Somewhere Over the Rainbow, bringing a jazzy sound to poppier songs such as My Future by Billie Eilish. It is an absolutely classic, timeless album, made with the involvement of producer Matt Pierson, arranger and pianist Alan Broadbent, guitarist Chico Pinheiro, pianist Ben Paterson and bassist Neal Miner."Most people of my generation don’t know these songs, and I’m excited about helping them to discover this repertoire![...] To me, it makes sense to sing these songs today, because the world needs this calming, joyous music, just as we did in the 1940s and 1950s." - Stella Cole.CastingStella Cole: voice Henry Allen Barfield : drums Fraser Urquhart: piano Luca Fattorini: bass

Cor do coração means colour of the heart.A passion for music, and especially Brazilian music in all of its rich diversity, is at the heart of this trio, comprising Filipe Monteiro and Luc Fenoli on guitar, accompanied by Cédric Le Donne on percussion. These three musicians have travelled the world, bringing sounds and rhythms inspired by their many travels home in their suitcases. What drives them above all is the joy of playing together and sharing this joy with the public through their own compositions or interpretations of Brazilian classics.A concert whose ultimate goal is to make our hearts sing in unison.
