Introduction

Admission is free, no booking required

In the exhibition TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE, works selected from the collection of Silvia Fiorucci (Monaco) represent condensers of our daily lives. They belong to the areas of domesticity that inhabit our memories. They embody the desire to incorporate art into the obscure repetition of our habits.

At the heart of La Gaya Scienza - a former family apartment that has been transformed into an arts space - TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE offers an immersive journey through the intimate areas of the home, sparking recollections of the rooms in a house: a kitchen, a bedroom, a living room... Every room evokes a subconscious state, fragmented memories, a refuge from the social world. Every drawer becomes a sensitive archive of buried emotions, every shadow a latent memory.

But what happens when cracks appear in the reassuring order of our everyday lives? When the familiar becomes strangely unknown, a void opens up, or a misplaced or forgotten object unsettles our perception? The public then slides towards Freud’s "uncanny": that point where the familiar memory flips to reveal the strangeness hidden within.

By means of a dramatic journey through the doors to our memory, the illuminated signage offers a call to breach closed doors, each of which becomes a puzzle to crack. The scenographic installations intensify the sensory atmosphere in each room of this fictitious home.

The diverse range of works selected and the scenographic interactions between the domestic and the exhibition invite the public to inhabit a strangely familiar space, where the memory teeters towards snippets of a distorted reality...

The exhibition is co-produced by the association La Società delle Api, in collaboration with art students studying scenography at the Pavillon Bosio and the student curators from the master’s degree in Exhibition Science and Techniques.

To evoke the Mediterranean, means summoning up the extraordinary history of the many great civilisations shaped on its shores over the centuries. But it also means facing up to its future, which is more uncertain than ever. The various pressures associated with its use, population growth, pollution and global warming are all threats to its future, global warming are all threats to its unique biodiversity and ecosystem services. This brand new immersive and interactive exhibition "Méditerranée 2050" aims to encourage visitors to the Monaco ‘s Oceanographic Museum to take a new interest in the Mediterranean and become involved in its protection, through a space-time journey to 2050.
