Académie Rainier III

Académie Rainier III

Introduction

The Rainier III Academy, managed by Monaco City Hall, specialises in teaching music and theatre. The Academy is attended by more than 800 pupils, with a total of 63 members of teaching staff.

Students benefit from high-quality teaching provided by qualified teachers, most of whom are concert artists, chamber musicians or soloists with the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Opera de Nice.

Similar to a conservatoire, the Academy's principal mission is to provide educational programmes that lead to a professional cycle (Diplôme d'Etudes Musicales - DEM).

The Academy teaches the following disciplines:

  • Music: introductory classes for children aged 6 and over (Year 2), including classical instrument practice, Jazz and Amplified Contemporary Music (MAA) training, singing and opera workshops, collective practice, sound engineering, plus other academic disciplines and more
  • Theatre: training from the age of 10, covering emerging trends, performances that explore human relationships with the world, and all aesthetic forms of theatre from the most contemporary to the most classical, along with an introduction to film techniques
  • Lutherie: an introductory course in the techniques of stringed instrument making for students aged 12 and over

The students and teachers put on numerous musical and theatrical productions each year, performing at various cultural venues in the Principality.

The Rainier III Academy has established partnerships with various institutional and private organisations in the Principality. The Academy also works closely with the Prince's Government, particularly the Department of Education, Youth and Sport, on cross-disciplinary projects and with the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Monte-Carlo Opera, which regularly call upon Academy students for various productions.

The Rainier III Academy currently has three campuses

  • "La Condamine" site | Académie de Musique (Music Academy) - 1, Boulevard Albert Ier
  • "Fontvieille" site | Département Jazz & MAA (Jazz & MAA Department) - Stade Louis II, Entrée D - 15, avenue des Castelans
