Introduction

À travers une pratique sculpturale et riche en gestes, Omar Castillo Alfaro s’inspire du savoir-faire de sa région natale pour questionner le lien entre art et artisanat, les récits qui y sont liés et sa réception au sein de la scène artistique européenne actuelle. Ses recherches, comme les matériaux et les formes qui existent dans son travail, participent à une lecture décoloniale de l’histoire de l’art en générant un nouveau registre dans ses installations immersives.

To evoke the Mediterranean, means summoning up the extraordinary history of the many great civilisations shaped on its shores over the centuries. But it also means facing up to its future, which is more uncertain than ever. The various pressures associated with its use, population growth, pollution and global warming are all threats to its future, global warming are all threats to its unique biodiversity and ecosystem services.This brand new immersive and interactive exhibition "Méditerranée 2050" aims to encourage visitors to the Monaco ‘s Oceanographic Museum to take a new interest in the Mediterranean and become involved in its protection, through a space-time journey to 2050.

Simple forms, fractal figures, muted, dull or vibrant colours, prickly, downy, bristly or waxy sheaths, fleshy, velvety organs, extravagant architectures – cacti and succulents have been a source of fascination for centuries. The Nouveau Musée National de Monaco, in collaboration with the Musée YVES SAINT LAURENT Marrakech, which initiated the project in 2024, is today dedicating an exhibition to them, seen from both a botanical and artistic perspective.
