Opening of the Photo Exhibition "Heritage in Danger"

PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITIONS ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE ACTIONS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

The Department of Cultural Affairs inaugurated last evening, in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, the exhibition of winners of the photography competition dedicated to 11–25 year-olds, whose theme was "Heritage in Danger", in line with the 2026 edition of European Heritage Days.

Opening of the Photo Exhibition "Heritage in Danger"

This theme evokes the threats facing our material cultural heritage (e.g. works of art and furniture, architecture, written and graphic works, constructed landscapes, gardens, archaeological sites, etc.) and intangible heritage (e.g. traditions, language, performing arts, rituals and festive events, traditional crafts, gastronomy, etc.) such as climate change, natural disasters, societal changes, urbanisation and mass tourism. This theme notably enabled all candidates to reflect on what cultural heritage represents and thus to question solutions for preserving it.

This second edition continues to reflect the desire to involve young people in the preservation of Monegasque heritage and to enhance the artistic expression of young people in the Principality.

The competition was open from 15 January to 15 March and revealed some very beautiful perspectives from young people on Monegasque heritage.

The panel of experts, composed of Stéphane Bern, an emblematic figure in heritage promotion, internationally renowned photographer and documentary filmmaker Nick Danziger, as well as several personalities from the world of Monegasque culture, selected 15 photographs from the entries. This selection will be exhibited on the railings of the Saint-Martin Gardens on the Rock until 4 October next, European Heritage Days in the Principality.

Additionally, 3 "Jury Favourites" awards were selected and presented by H.S.H. this Wednesday 8 April at the official opening of the exhibition. (3 award categories: 11–14 years, 15–18 years, 19–25 years).

Come and discover the exhibition until 4 October next on the railings of the Saint-Martin Gardens.
