Philosophy for young people – "Saying thank you, what for?" led by Alicia Polzella Gauduel
Introduction
Dire merci, pour quoi faire ?
Dire merci, on le fait souvent sans y penser. À la fois banal et précieux, ce petit mot est prononcé plusieurs fois par jour et des centaines de fois dans une année.
Saying thank you, what for?
Saying thank you, we often do it without thinking. At once commonplace and precious, this little word is spoken several times a day and hundreds of times a year. We say it because we were taught to and because it's polite.
But saying thank you, is it only following a rule? Of course, we say it more sincerely when we have received something. So, does our "thank you" depend on the gift received or the help provided? And if we haven't received anything, can we still say thank you?
In this workshop, children will reflect on this funny question: saying thank you, what for? Is saying thank you automatic? Is it giving something in return for what you've received? Do you feel obliged or does saying thank you also bring you something?
Can you say thank you to someone who isn't there, to life, to nature... or just to "nothing in particular"?
A philosophy workshop to question gratitude, the connection it allows us to build with others and to discover that saying thank you can sometimes transform the way we see the world.
